It is native to the North East region of North America. The oil produced is the sweet evergreen and slightly balsamic. It is close to Black Spruce in composition and similar in aroma and use. North American Spruce contains lower camphorus aromas normally found in European species. Traditionally, Spruce has been used anti-inflammatory rubs and for respiratory issues. It is an energizing oil which has been used in saunas and warm baths to cleanse the body and open airways. It is a fragile oil that should be protected well from heat sunlight and oxygen. Old or oxidized oils may be added to cleansers for deodorizing improved cleaning.
